How to Detangle Hair Without the Damage

If you have fine or long hair, chances are you are prone to easily tangled hair. Summer days at the pool or beach end with salt or chlorine soaked hair that can make dealing with tangles that much worse. The key to successfully detangling hair without causing further damage is patience and a routine with conditioning products that will make detangling even super knotted hair a breeze.

The most effective way to avoid tangles and knots in the shower is by thoroughly brushing your hair before you wash it. Section your hair off by starting from the bottom where most knots and tangles are, continuing to work up. Try to avoid using brushes with plastic balls on the ends, as those types of brushes can pull on your hair strands and create damage.

Apply a Pre-Shampoo Conditioner

Combat chronic tangles or matted hair by applying conditioner in the shower before shampooing. To do this, apply a hydrating conditioner on the ends of your hair first and comb through with a wide-toothed comb. Next, apply shampoo to your roots only and then rinse out the shampoo and conditioner together. Follow with an all over deep conditioner if your hair needs extra TLC. We love adding Marula Oil to any conditioner or masque for an extra layer of moisture. Plus, it will make your hair smell amazing and feel touchable all day long.

Prepare Your Hair for Chlorine

If your summer plans include heading to the pool or beach, it is a good idea to get your hair wet before jumping in saltwater or chlorine. Take it a step further by thoroughly wetting down your hair and combing conditioner through it. This will help minimize the amount of chlorine and salt that your hair absorbs, which will cause breakage and dryness. Your hair will absorb the fresh water first, leaving little room for the chlorine or beach water to penetrate your hair.
